Note from BOFA: Some of the following details were applicable for last year.

Applying online

You can now make your application online - which means you need not wait for the post before finding out which school your child has been offered a place at.  If you have applied online you can view your offer online on 2  March 2009.  We post out offer letters on 2 March 2009.

You will find the online application form at www.kirklees.gov.uk/onlineadmissions. This will be available from 4 September 2009 until the deadline on Friday, 16 October 2009.

You can access the website at all Kirklees libraries.

The online application form enables you to make your application and send it to us immediately.  We will confirm that we have received it.  Even if you have made your application you can come back and make amendments to it at any time up until the deadline.

The advantages of making your application online are that you can be assured that your application has been received and you can also keep a record of the application you made.

The process should be easy to follow but if you have any problems you can email the School Admissions Team at onlineadmissions@kirklees.gov.uk

Why should I apply online?

  • It’s quick and easy to do.
  • It’s secure – only you can see your information.
  • The system helps you by checking for errors before you submit your application.
  • The application procedure is easy to follow as you are guided throughout the application process.
  • You can save your unfinished application and complete it at a later date.
  • You can change your application at any time up until the deadline.
  • We will confirm we have received your application.
  • You can view your application at any time.
  • You will not have to post anything to us, saving you the cost of a stamp.
  • The environment benefits from a reduction in the use of paper forms and envelopes.
  • We will email you with our decision on 3 March 2008 – it’s quicker than waiting for the post.
  • You can also log on to get the result of your application on 2 March 2009.

Entrance Examination

All pupils seeking entry into Year 7 must sit the school's entrance examination. Prior registration of the intention to do so is essential.

It takes place on Saturday 5th December 2009.

All pupils taking the examination (typically 700+) are divided into groups of about 25. Each group is allocated to an individual classroom, supervised by a member of staff and two pupil mentors (from either Key Stage 4 or the Sixth Form) We hope that this makes the experience a little more personal and a little less intimidating than having all pupils in one huge examination hall.

The tests are conducted in the same morning, interspersed with a break, including leisure time and a chance to visit the tuck shop.

Reasoning Test  / Mathematics test

These two tests assess attainment, relating typically to work, which will have been covered in Key Stage 2 up to Level 5 of the National Curriculum. As the tests are taken in December, schools may not have covered all of the elements by that stage. The elements not yet covered may vary from school to school but the situation will be universal; individual pupils should not be disadvantaged. If you have any concerns, please speak to your teacher.

You can use BOFA 11+ to help prepare for the exams:

The school conducts a practice test on 10th October2009  to allow children the opportunity to gain experience of the tests in examination conditions. Attendance at the practice test is not compulsory and it forms no part of the admissions procedure. Results of the practice are communicated to parents prior to the final deadline for applications.
