11+ West Midlands
11+ West Midlands
There are three grammar school consortiums in the West Midlands that all use the same 11 plus entrance test under the banner of the West Midlands Grammar Schools partnership. This one selective entrance test means that with parental consent, results can be shared with all schools across the partnership. This means children no longer have to sit a different test for each school they wish to apply to, reducing stress and anxiety. The entrance test is provided by GL Assessment and consists of two papers each covering English comprehension, verbal reasoning, maths and non-verbal/spatial reasoning. All questions are multiple choice format and answers are recorded on an Optical Mark Reading (OMR) answer sheet. The raw scores (the number of correct answers in each section) are converted to an age-standardised score to make allowance for the child's age at the time of the test to ensure that younger children are not disadvantaged.
