The following areas have an academic selection process for children moving up to senior school that may be referred to as the 11 plus. Click on the regional name for more information.

Cumbria

There is only one selective state school in Cumbria that requires children to sit an 11+ exam, Queen Elizabeth Grammar school in Penrith

Greater Manchester

There are seven selective grammar schools in Greater Manchester. Five grammar schools in the Trafford area belong to the Trafford Grammar Schools Consortium. The five schools in the Consortium all use the same 11 plus admissions test, details of these schools can be found further down the page. There are two grammar schools in Greater Manchester that are not part of the Trafford Grammar Schools Consortium. These schools have their own admissions exams.

Lancashire

There are four grammar schools in Lancashire. Children wishing to apply for a place at any of these schools must sit each school's 11 plus entrance exam.

  • Lancaster Royal Grammar School

Liverpool

There is only one selective state school in Cumbria that requires children to sit an 11+ exam, The Liverpool Blue Coat School. There are six grammar schools on the Wirral, details of which are further down the page.

Trafford

There are five grammar schools in the Trafford area that belong to the Trafford Grammar Schools Consortium. The five schools in the Consortium all use the same 11 plus admissions test. There are two grammar schools in Greater Manchester that are not part of the Trafford Grammar Schools Consortium. Wirral

There are six grammar schools on the Wirral. Four of the grammar schools use the Wirral Admissions Test, two use their own 11 plus exam. There is one further grammar school in the area, in Liverpool. Details of which can be found higher up the page.
