What is the 11 Plus?

• 11+, 11 plus or Eleven plus are slightly different names given to the tests set by pupils at the age of eleven in order to select pupils to go to certain schools. 
  

• The 11 plus is used in both state schools and private/independent schools but not all of either.
  

• You can find out about the history of the eleven the 11 plus on the internet on such sites as Wikipedia or using the search engines. 
  

• The 11 plus has been a controversial political issue for many years and will continue to be as it is not possible for a politician to have been fully educated in both systems and as such personal experience will continue to be a factor.
