If you live in Reading Borough you must apply to Reading Borough Council for a secondary school place for your child even if your preferred school(s) is in another local authority. If you live in Reading Borough Council (i.e. you pay your Council Tax to Reading) the only valid application is one submitted to Reading Borough Council you do not need to apply to the school or to any other local authority for schools outside Reading. If you live in another local authority you must apply to that authority even if you are seeking a place in a Reading school.

11+ examinations for entry as a day boy to Reading School in September 2010
For entry in September 2010, a boy's date of birth will fall on or between 1.9.98 and 31.8.99. All applications for day places should be made to Reading School and to the Local Authority. Applications will only be accepted for day or boarding and not for both.
Places available
There are 112 places in total comprising of 12 boarders (maximum) and 100 day-boys (minimum). Parents should appreciate that not all boys who are deemed suitable for a place at Reading School can be accommodated, as there are many more applications than places available.

Closing date for applications : Friday 16th October 2009
Date set aside for the tests : Friday 20 November 2009
(Tests are taken at Reading School)
Nature of tests
There will be three tests each of length approximately one hour.
The tests will cover:
* Reasoning [verbal and/or non-verbal(abstract)]
* English
* Mathematics
The tests will build on current good practice adopted in primary schools and will be tests for which no additional preparation is necessary.
No past papers are available and no further information with respect to the tests will be given. Results for day places will be issued by the L.A. on 1 March 2010.

Open Days 2009
Thursday 2 July, Wednesday 23 September, Thursday 24 September
Both parents and boys are welcome to attend, though it would be very much appreciated if younger children did not accompany parents as the evening is reasonably long (2¼ hours) and at certain times during the evening, space is at a premium. No appointment is necessary.

5.30 - 6.30 Talk/Question and Answer session
Reading Girls' School
11+ examinations for entry to Reading Girls' School in September 2010
The families of girls the the local primary school will be sent out information automatically and will be required to return a completed card to the school in order to sit the selection test. This process is open to girls outside the imediate locality of the school and parents should contact the school directly for further details.

Kendrick School
Entry Procedure
There are 93 places for entry to Year 7 in the September of every year. Application forms can be collected from the school on Open Day or on request from the school on receipt of a stamped, addressed envelope.
Applications for entry must be completed and return to the school. Entry is by examination consisting of verbal and non-verbal reasoning tests. These usually take place in late November at Kendrick School. Dates for this year are inside the prospectus.
